Igniting Creativity: The Story Behind Chingari by DIB at IIMA Ahmedabad

Sometimes, all it takes is a little spark to reignite your creativity, push through obstacles, and light the way forward. That’s exactly what Chingari is about—an idea born out of our desire to spark motivation and creativity, brought to life as a special giveaway at our pop-up store at IIMA Ahmedabad. But Chingari is more than just a product; it’s a symbol, a tool, and a reminder to keep moving forward no matter what. What is Chingari?

In Hindi, "Chingari" means spark—a small but powerful flame that can ignite great things. As a creative design studio, we spent hours brainstorming, sketching, and debating ideas that could encapsulate this spark. We wanted something that not only inspired people but also aligned with our vision of creativity and forward-thinking. And after sifting through countless concepts, one stood out—Chingari.

More Than Just a Matchbox

Chingari is more than a matchbox. We wanted to create something that people could engage with in their everyday lives, something that would remind them to stay inspired and keep their inner fire alive. That’s how we decided to fit Chingari into a matchbox, a simple yet symbolic object that everyone could connect with. Designed by Dhavanshi Shah, Nisarg Bhavsar, Vanshita Jain, and our founder, Pankti Sheth, this matchbox became a quirky toolkit filled with items designed to spark creativity and decision-making.

So, what's inside this little box?

  • The Tossing Coin: Stuck between choices? Flip it! No more endless overthinking—just a playful way to make decisions.

  • Chewing Gum: Need a refresh? This gum reminds you that life is full of little surprises, just like creativity.

  • Gum Throwing Dispenser: Time to get rid of the bad vibes? Toss those negative thoughts out—literally.

  • The Zine: A mini-magazine packed with stories and insights to ignite your creativity and get you thinking.

  • The Mirror: More than just for checking your hair—this is a reminder to "Reflect Your Best Self" every day.

Each piece inside the matchbox serves a purpose—to keep you moving, inspired, and ready to face your next challenge. And that’s what Chingari is all about: sparking a positive mindset in fun, engaging ways.

The Design Journey

Designing Chingari was an adventure. We didn’t want to just make something cool—we wanted something that would stick, something that would connect with people on a deeper level. We asked ourselves, what does it mean to have that "spark"!  How can we bring this idea to life in a way that feels meaningful, relatable, and fun?

One of our key inspirations came from the timeless fable of the rabbit and the turtle. Remember how the turtle, slow and steady, wins the race? That’s the kind of fire we wanted to capture—the persistence to keep going, no matter how hard the journey gets. Through many late-night brainstorming sessions (and countless coffee cups), we refined Chingari into what it is today: a matchbox packed with tools designed to spark action and creativity.

The Launch at IIMA

When we took Chingari to IIMA Ahmedabad, We wanted to start conversations. We wanted to connect with people. We invited visitors to talk about what was holding them back, encouraging them to reignite their own creative spark. It wasn’t about transactions—it was about inspiration.

And the response? Amazing. People loved that we weren’t just pitching something—we were offering a fresh perspective. As one visitor put it, “DIB wasn’t just selling something; they were sparking a conversation that mattered.” That’s exactly what we aimed to do with Chingari.

Behind the Scenes: The Chingari Video

To really capture the heart of Chingari, we created a video that takes you right into our world. The video highlights our work, our energy, and how we bring ideas to life, all culminating in the meeting room where briefs turn into real-world results.
